What is end-to-end encryption? And why it’s so important for everyone…

Your email is not safe without end-to-end encryption.

Neither are your texts.

If you’ve been reading my newsletters or taking my courses I am sure you have run into the term end-to-end encryption before. But maybe you don’t know what it means.

First, let me mention, there is a big difference between a service with encryption and a service with end-to-end encryption.

Encryption is the process of encoding the contents of your email/text/etc. so that you can only decode it with a key.

When a website or service uses encryption the message is taken and encrypted from you, and the key is held on the server.

That means, if someone breaks into the website’s server, they can access your message.

In end-to-end encryption, the encoding and decoding happen on a device-to-device level.

That means when your message is sent, it is encoded on your device. Transferred through the server, and then decoded on the recipient’s device.

So, if a hacker would break into the server of a service that offers end-to-end encryption, they wouldn’t be able to get any of the information in the emails.

That’s because they don’t have the key to decode the messages.

Even if they got a hold of the encoded message, it would be total gibberish to them, and it would take way too long for them to crack.

When you are sending email or text messages it is important that you look for a service that provides true end-to-end encryption, that way your messages are safe.
