Asus laptop

Hello,
I have an Asus laptop purchased approximately 15 months or so ago from Costco in Ottawa. It has been overheating and recommended to bring in to Costco for further investigation of potential problems. As long as I do not give my password to get into Windows, can someone actually hack in one way or another? Any simple suggestions to follow? I am not sure if I were to delete stuff if I am savvy enough to get it back on again.
