Frequntly Asked Quetion (FAQ)

Q. We have software installed on our computers to prevent inappropriate content getting through and to track if one of our teenage sons tries to seek out that type of content. Will installing a VPN affect this software in any way? Or is there a better way to protect us from that type of content? Thanks!

A.

I did some very basic research on the software that you mentioned. It looks like the software is focused on restricting what you see on the internet and tracking everything your children do. I don’t know anything about the company, but consider this, they will be able to see everything you do online. In effect, this app is the exact opposite of privacy. I suggest that caution is in order. If you really want to use this type of software, ask yourself these questions…

  • Do you trust these people enough to let them see everything you do online, and what your children do?
  • I assume they are honest people, but what about the company they hired to make the software, or the individual software coders? Can you know that they are trustworthy?
  • Is the software designed properly and without bugs that hackers will be able to target?
  • Could this software be used to actually spy on your kids?

Again, I’m not suggesting that they are dishonest, but be aware that you are putting a lot of trust in them. Just because they seem to be a Christian-based company doesn’t mean that you should automatically trust them. That is my two cents worth.
