I love how you asked this question Michele, because this is not just something that children need to work on. Let’s talk about social media. Do you post pictures of your children online? I know you want to share your life with your friends and family, but who else are you sharing it with? At the very least, go into your Facebook settings and limit who can see your pictures. But also go through your friends list and purge. Do you really know all of these people? Do you want all of these people to see your personal photos?
Ideally, it’s best to get off of social media, but if this is something that you’re not willing to do, at least be more thoughtful. Limit who can see your images and posts. Be careful not to post anything about where you live. Don’t post nude images of your children when they run through the sprinkler – yes, people do this all the time!
Consider taking all social media apps off your phone. This will make it harder for you to post images and videos. If you have to work harder to post those things, maybe you will think twice about doing it. But this will also remove those very intrusive apps from your phone.
Instead of making privacy a chore for you and the family, make it a challenge. Try to make it fun. Do research. Be skeptical about everything related to Big Tech and Big Brother.
Q. How can we as a family develop better privacy habits?
